Position Volunteer Driver - 'Friendly Companion' Transportation Program

By sharing your time and providing rides and accompaniment, you will be reducing isolation of our seniors while increasing their independence in taking care of their activities of daily living (grocery shopping, medical appointments, banking, etc .
Description Help seniors stay independent! Volunteer drivers are needed to provide "door through door" transportation to frail seniors who live in their own homes and who can no longer drive. Volunteers pick up clients at their home, and provide support/accompaniment and (non-emergency) transportation to shop, get to doctor and medical appointments, do banking, and so much more. Services are in Yarmouth County and Town only. A satisfactory driver's abstract, specific insurance requirements, your own vehicle, and a cell phone are mandatory. Patience, a caring attitude towards seniors, good driving skills, and good organizing skills would be assets.
Training Details Volunteers must complete application process (application form, interview).
Once this process is successfully completed, volunteer will require mandatory background checks, proof of insurability, driver's license, NS Driver's Abstract. Volunteer orientation and training will then follow.
Working Conditions Volunteers work from their home and their vehicle. You will briefly be in and out of clients' homes, in and out of your vehicle, in various offices, stores, banks, pharmacies. Flexible hours, weekdays only. In inclement weather, volunteers determine if they wish to provide drive or not. Some lifting (grocery bags).

Timing Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail Program only operates during the day, when office staff are available. 08:30 to 4:30 pm.
